  11. SYMPTOMS
  12.    When you try to attach to a Btrieve database you get an error
  13.    message when you choose the FILE.DDF:
  14.  
  15.       Table <tablename> is exclusively locked.
  16.    or
  17.       Couldn't open file <filename>.
  18.  
  19. CAUSE
  20.    Whenever Microsoft Access tries to attach to a table, it needs to
  21.    open the target table exclusively tempoarily. If the target Btrieve
  22.    table is open by any other users at the same time that Microsoft
  23.    Access tries to attach to the table, one of the above error messages
  24.    will be returned.

  26. RESOLUTION
  27.    The only workaround at this time is to find an available time when
  28.    the target Btrieve table is not being used by any other users. Once
  29.    Microsoft Access has attached to the Btrieve table, you should not
  30.    receive the above error messages.
